Reigning Group 4 champion, Andrew King told Kaieteur Sport during a telephone conversation yesterday that even though the team hasn’t been able to completely resolve all the technical problems on the car, he still believes that it will be competitive on race day.
King is currently preparing for the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club’s season opening meet this Sunday at the South Dakota Circuit.
“I still have some problems despite the fact that we bought a complete engine for the car and this is because there are some technical limitations within the team.”
King revealed that since last November during the final stanza of the Caribbean Series in Guyana, the car was experiencing a tuning problem which made it difficult for him to achieve maximum speed – a development ultimately responsible for his below par performance.
He pointed to the absence of personnel with the skills to rectify the anomaly as the chief obstacle to a full and proper preparation for Sunday’s showdown.
“We still do not have the skills as yet to remedy the current situation, but we’ve been dealing with the suppliers and hopefully they can solve the current issue,” King disclosed.
“If you can recall, at the November Meet the car was missing a lot, and since that time to now we’ve been constantly working on the identified problems, but have not been able to get it up to the desired level.
We are currently at 80%, but I’m optimistic that we’ll be ready in time to give the fans a good showing,” the champ assured.
The champ will have to contend with the likes of Kevin Jeffrey, Andrew Morgan, Irfaan Kalamadeen, Vishok Persaud, Mark Vieira and possibly Ryan Rahaman.
