Broken promise lands man behind bars

Shouibe Mohamed, 19, of Fyrish Village, Corentyne and a security guard attached to the Albion Estate, Corentyne, Berbice, was yesterday placed on $100,000 bail by Magistrate Chandra Sohan following a carnal knowledge charge.
It is alleged that some time on December 10, last year, Mohammed had carnal knowledge of a 14-year-old female.
The prosecution case as presented by Inspector Satrohan Dayaram is that the man befriended the teen and promised to marry her and make her happy.  On the day in question the accused collected her from her home and took her to a hotel in New Amsterdam and had sex with her.
However, after having his way he did not keep his promise to marry the teen and instead married someone else some time after. The teen became annoyed and decided to report the sex act in February 2009.
The man was subsequently arrested and charged. He will have to return to the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court for report on May 22.
