The Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF) has accepted an invitation from its Suriname counterpart to participate in a goodwill tournament between the two countries over the coming weekend. According to an official from the GVF, the tournament will serve as a warm-up for the Dutch team which is currently preparing to participate in World Cup preliminaries in June in Trinidad and Tobago.
The host will field its current national line-up that has been in training for sometime, while Guyana’s squad is made up of a number of senior nationals in addition to a few members of the national under-19 team currently preparing for the Inter-Guiana Games scheduled to be held in Suriname.
Suriname in its request had stated that Guyana was chosen because it was felt that it is generally a formidable opponent, added to the fact that the squad is coming off an outstanding performance during their recent tour to Barbados.
The Guyana team will contain players such as Ian Wills, Randy Adams, Seon Glasgow, Mike Trapp, Corwin Richards, Christopher Ramsundar, Seon Wilson and Imran Bansie. Levi Nedd has been selected as the coach, while Dexter Hoppie is his Assistant.
The team leaves tomorrow and returns on Monday.
