Police are awaiting results of a post mortem examination to determine the way forward in connection with the death of 20-year-old Jasmattie Deochan who was found hanging in her Cane Grove, Mahaica home on Sunday evening.
This newspaper understands that the woman’s husband told the police that on Saturday morning Deochan attempted to drink a bottle of poison but fortunately he was able to thwart that attempt on her life.
He added that he went to his farm and when he returned he found her cooking and she appeared to be calm and well.
However, on Sunday evening he left to go on the road and upon returning some 10 minutes later he found her hanging from the ceiling of their bedroom.
The husband also told the police he cut the rope and failed in an attempt to give his wife mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
The police said that they observed a chair in the bedroom next to the bed which the woman apparently climbed on.
However, sources said that they found this baffling since Deochan could have simply climbed on the bed rather than drag a chair and placing it right next to the bed.
Deochan’s body remains at the Lyken Funeral Parlour. A post mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted tomorrow.
No one has been taken into custody but investigations are ongoing.
