Pepsi Hornets ‘A’ carted off the Banks DIH Sevens Rugby Championships after playing unbeaten in the Guyana Football Rugby Union season opening event which was played yesterday at the National Park.
Hornets ‘A’ led by West Indies standout Albert La Rose defeated all and sundry en route to a convincing performance to grab the title.
The Ladies segment was reduced to an exhibition due to the inability of teams to field a full compliment of players.
In the day’s full results”: Hornets ‘B’ was crushed by their ‘A’ counterparts 0-31; Guyana Defence Force ‘A’ then inflicted a drubbing on their ‘B’ unit 50-0; Hornets ‘B’ lost to Caribs 12-14; Hornets ‘A’ flattened GDF ‘b’ 45-0; GDF ‘A’ beat Caribs 19-10; Hornets ‘A’ eased past Caribs 29-19; GDF ‘B’ edged Hornets ‘B’ 5-0; Hornets ‘A’ beat GDF ‘A’ 14-7; Caribs were comfortable winners against GDF ‘B’ 17-5 and GDF ‘A’ edged Hornets ‘B’ 10-7.
In the end, Hornets ‘A’ finished with the maximum 8 points followed by GDF’A’ on 6 and Caribs in the cellar with 4.
