– may have been victim of Hit and Run
By Latoya Giles
Police on the East Coast of Demerara yesterday discovered the unidentified body of a suspected hit-and-run accident victim on the
Rupert Craig Highway, near Turkeyen.
The victim, who is of African ancestry, was fully clothed in a striped jersey and blue jeans and heavy-duty Timberland boots.
According to police, tyre marks on the roadway indicated that the man was dragged some distance by a vehicle.
The victim sustained injuries to the head, upper body and both feet were broken.
Police suspect that he was employed as a security guard, since there was a BK International truck parked a short distance from the scene.
They were however unable to confirm this theory.
Police ranks on the scene retrieved broken glass which they believe came from a shattered windscreen or rearview mirror.
Several persons stopped at the scene but no one was able to identify the victim, although one person claimed that he had seen the victim in the vicinity of Orange Walk on Saturday.
Checks were also made with the security guard at the Liliendaal Pump Station to ascertain if he may have heard anything.
The body was taken to the Georgetown Hospital where he was pronounced dead and later taken to the mortuary.
The police are asking anyone whose relative may fit this description to contact the nearest police station or visit the Sparendaam Police Station.
