Police Commissioner Henry Greene said that the force is awaiting the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in relation to investigations into the alleged presentation to the United States Embassy of forged adoption papers by a former senior military official.
The investigations have implicated former Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force, Major General Ret’d Norman McLean and Supreme Court Registrar, Sita Ramlall.
The US Embassy had called in the police after they uncovered the forgery of an adoption document allegedly presented to them by McLean.
There were reports that the date of the adoption was altered and further investigations implicated Ramlall in her capacity at Registrar of the Supreme Court, who is said to be closely associated to the former army chief. Ramlall has denied any involvement in the forgery. Following the revelations, the United States Embassy revoked Ramlall’s visa.
Both she and McLean were questioned by local investigators and released on station bail.
Greene told this newspaper that the file on the matter was initially sent to the DPP but was returned to the police for additional information. He explained that after the additional information was obtained, the file was sent back to the DPP.
“We are now awaiting the DPP’s advice. Issues like these are not left behind,” the Commissioner told this newspaper.
