– Accommodation, umpires fees still needed
The national 16 and under netball team, which is expected to depart Guyana on Thursday to participate in the Caribbean Championship in Kingston, Jamaica, completed on court preparations yesterday with a match against a Rest team at the Cliff Anderson Sport Hall Tarmac.
According to Manager Shaundel Samaroo, the team will still be engaged in fitness and strategic drills over the next two days.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Kaieteur Sport, President of the Guyana Netball Association Dr. Maxine Parris-Aaron said that so far the airfares have been accounted for and it is just a mater of garnering the accommodation and umpires fees within the next two days.
“I’m making a special appeal to anyone who is interested in helping this team get to Jamaica to come forward and assist us so that we could realise our target,” Dr. Parris-Aaron urged.
The President revealed that they still have the umpires’ fees which are US$1,050 and a major part of the accommodation expense still outstanding.
“This team has been in training for the past two years and I think it would be very unhelpful for the sport not to reward them with participation at the Caribbean Tournament, the one event which they have trained and dedicated themselves for,” Parris-Aaron reasoned.
She said that uniforms, sneakers and other personal effects have already been procured, but it is just the accommodation that is a bit of a bother to them at the moment.
Parris-Aaron disclosed that former members of the game currently residing in the USA made a contribution along with other citizens within the society as well as abroad and the GNA is extremely thankful and grateful for, but there is still a slight shortfall.
