An elderly pedestrian was killed at around 21:45 hrs on Monday night at Grove, East Bank Demerara and another lost his life yesterday after being hit by a truck near Kuru Kururu on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
According to reports, Joseph Cockfield, 72, of Second Street, Grove, was pushing a bicycle across the road when he was struck down by motor car HB 5318. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre.
The driver of the car has been detained.
Police also reported that David King, 24, of Kuru Kururu, was walking along the Soesdyke/Linden highway at around 04:10hrs yesterday when he was struck down by motor lorry GLL 4844. He was pronounced dead the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
The truck driver has been detained.
Statistics indicate that there have been 28 road fatalities for this year, compared to 21 for the corresponding period last year.
