The Guyana Amateur Swimming Association has released the names of their male and female squads for the upcoming Inter-Guiana Games set for Georgetown, Guyana, April 24 – 27.
The experienced duo of Noelle Smith and Steffie De Nobrega will lead the female swimmers which include debutants Britany van Lange, Aureyah Payne, Athena Gaskin and Soroya Simmons.
Runner-up junior sportsman of the year Niall Roberts and the Lowe brothers Henk and Alan are the experienced IGG campaigners on the male squad. They will seek to guide first timers Joseph Seguina and Sheik Amir.
The 6th place on the team is still a toss up since the association will have to choose from a pool of three, Jaime Jabar, Kevon De Moura and Zagale Fernandes.
Training session under the watchful eyes of Coach Christopher Mc Adam are held daily at the Castellani Pool except Sundays.
Athletes will compete in the 50 and 100m butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle. 200m free and individual medley while two relays will also be contested, 4 X 50 free and 4 X 50 medley.
The local teams are expected to be tested by the visitors but are expected to give a very good account of themselves.
