The owner of Pet Boy Liquor Store, Mahendra Jagbandhan, was yesterday freed of a charge accusing him of exhibiting threatening behaviour on January 28, 2009.
According to Jagbandhan, an undisclosed sum of money was owed to his business by the owner of Survival Supermarket, Goberdhan Arjune, who had procured a quantity of drinks. “He (Arjune) had taken some drinks from me and did not pay for them,” said Jagbandhan.
Because of the non-payment, Jagbandhan said that he went to the Survival Supermarket on Vlissengen Road and demanded his money.
Arjune, in the wake of this approach, apparently proceeded to the Kitty Police Station and made a report that Jagbandhan had threatened him.
Jagbandhan was charged on January 28.
When the matter was called on March 5, Arjune told the court that he had to leave the country and would not be able to keep the next court assignment.
When the matter was called in court yesterday, Chief Magistrate (ag) Melissa Roberson-Ogle dismissed the case.
While Jagbandhan said that he is happy that the case was dismissed, he lamented the time wasted and the money he had to spend to employ the services of a lawyer.
“It was an unfortunate waste of time,” said Jagbandhan, “all because he (Arjune) did not pay me.”
