Registrar of the Supreme Court, Sita Ramlal burst into tears during an impromptu birthday honour bestowed upon her by her office staff, yesterday.
Some staff members claimed that they were unaware of the event, which seemed to be a show of support for the embattled Ramlal, who has been implicated in an adoption case fraud, which was exposed by the US Embassy in Georgetown.
Following the exposure, Ramlal’s US visa was revoked by the embassy.
Staffers presented several bouquets during an emotional fifteen minutes. The scene was reminiscent of that which obtained when she returned from overseas following a prolonged illness.
Failing to hold back her tears, the Registrar said that she was very grateful for the outpouring from her staff even though she is going through a very difficult period.
“I never thought that I would have to face this again, because coming through an illness that saw me in a coma for 19 days, I didn’t think that I would have had any more pain in my life,” the Registrar said through her tears.
“I suppose I am destined to be that person who would have to face the suffering,” Miss Ramlal told her staff.
Apart from the adoption fiasco with the US Embassy in which former Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force Norman Mc Lean is also implicated, the Registrar is before the Judicial Service Commission facing misconduct hearings.
