Dear Editor,
With regards to the fiasco at the Vryman’s Erven School in New Amsterdam and a letter penned by a teacher of that school, I would like to add a few words. First of all, what are the parents doing knowing fully well about what has transpired at the school? These hooligans are jumping the back fence of the school and molesting young girl-children; this leaves much to be desired. Are we waiting for a rape to take place?
I wonder if when a teacher retaliates, then the police would run out on full throttle. Why can’t the police set traps for these boys? Why the school’s PTA and Region Six Administration are silent on this issue? These boys are breaking the law by jumping the school’s fence to enter the compound. Are all concerned afraid to act or say anything? I hope the police intervenes, and quickly.
I think this is where the government has blundered when the National Service was abolished. The time has come to re-establish the National Service to take these schools’ dropouts. They will learn a few trades here and there. We need to get them off the streets. Is it because the Guyana National Service (GNS) was the brainchild of the Late President Burnham that the PPP has shelved its resuscitation?
