Payments of duties and taxes will only be accepted in form of cash, personal cheques and manager’s cheques by the Guyana Revenue Authority.
This comes in light of the recent escalation in the number of bounced and fraudulent cheques being submitted for payment of the Guyana Revenue Authority’s duties and taxes.
A decision was taken to change the system, since the defective cheques cause an increase in the administrative burden to recollect those payments due to the GRA. As such, the Commissioner-General has declared that the payment of duties and taxes by third-party cheques will no longer be accepted.
Cheques submitted for payments that do not meet the criteria will be rejected.
Additionally, taxpayers who submit personal cheques that are not honoured will be blacklisted, and can no longer pay by personal cheques unless approval has been given by the Commissioner-General.
