Sugrim Samaroo was held by the police yesterday on allegations that he had stolen some US$3,500, a diplomatic passport and a Guyana passport from Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Pauline Sukhai, during a function at State House on Sunday.
The woman had gone to the police with a report that she had lost her bag that contained the articles. She further said that someone had to break into her car, since she had left the articles there.
After the report was made to the police, they detained Samaroo, but were forced to release him with an apology some time later when the Minister reported that she had returned to her car only to find her missing bag, with its contents intact, inside the vehicle.
