Dear Editor,
Firstly, let me thank the National Communications Network and the sponsors for bringing West Indies cricket coverage to the nation. We are very thankful. However, is it really necessary to show the same set of commercials every 3-5 minutes?
Being a big cricket fan I am always glued to the TV when cricket is showing. As a result, I now know all of the regular cricket commercials by heart – word for word, scene by scene.
I am sure it is the same for other cricket fans in the country. The repetitions are a bit too much. We may even miss a piece of the cricket, such as a wicket, a boundary or an important replay, due to an ill-timed ad.
Is it a requisite of the sponsor that their ads be shown every 5 minutes for a two-hour cricket session? There must be a line between a persuasive ad campaign and bombardment.
Please let us work together to ensure the sponsors get the returns on their investment and the nation gets to view the best possible cricket coverage.
