The Phagwah celebrations for some friends ended with a bang when the car in which they were travelling collided with another heading in the opposite direction. The accident occurred at about 20:30 hours yesterday.
According to 25-year-old Riaz Imran Khan of 22 Diamond New Scheme, one of the individuals involved in the accident, and two others who wished to remain anonymous, were going home after visiting some relatives at Herstelling, East Bank Demerara.
He said they had a few drinks and decided to leave the car with his friends. He said that he told them that he would pick it up at another time, and that he would take a bus. Khan said that after waiting for a very long time for a bus they decided to flag down a car.
“I told the driver that I wanted to go to Grove. When I was in the car I noticed that he was driving very fast. I was looking out the side window, and before I know it – Blam! The other car came out from nowhere and crashed into the car I was in.” After the accident the driver of the other car ran away. The police later discovered that this car had been stolen.
Khan and the others were taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where they were treated and sent away.
