Two of the three persons who were detained after the Sheriff Street Internet Café shooting on Friday last have been released from the Kitty Police Station.
One relative told this newspaper that the 17-year-old lad and his 25-year-old cousin were released on Monday morning by investigating ranks.
Detectives had also arrested a customer who was in the internet café when the shooting occurred.
Shooting victim Bobby Hemraj remained in a critical condition up to press time. Hemraj had to be rushed back to the operating theatre on Saturday after suffering further complications.
Hospital officials disclosed that Hemraj has lost one of his kidneys and that his liver and one lung were also damaged.
Reports indicate that Hemraj and a friend were in the office browsing on the internet while a customer was in another section of the premises when the gunmen struck on Friday night.
It is alleged that as Hemraj walked to the grill door, the gunman drew a firearm and shot the student nurse in the stomach. He and an accomplice then escaped on a bicycle.
Hemraj’s friend and the customer reportedly took the wounded man downstairs and rushed him to the GPHC, where he underwent surgery.
Robbery has been ruled out since the gunmen never made any demands or sought to relieve anyone of any valuables.
Speculation remains that the shooting is connected to a robbery that occurred at the premises about a year ago.
Hemraj, who was employed there at the time, identified one of the suspects and has been testifying in court against the accused.
The wounded man’s relatives alleged that Hemraj had received threats from a suspect in the case.
