Dorado Speed Swim Club’s (DSSC) Noelle Smith and Britany van Lange along with Jamaal Sobers of Orca Speed Swim Club (OSSC) set new records on day one of the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) Mashramani Meet being contested at the Castellani Pool, Homestretch Avenue.
Smith, competing in the girls’ 15-17 age-group, shattered the old 200m Individual Medley (IM) mark of 3:02.61 set by Beverly Fiedtkou in August 1999 with a new mark of 2:58.00.
Smith achievement is even more commendable given the fact that she has not been able to train regularly due to her having to meet critical deadlines for school based assignments.
She also achieved a new record in the 50m breaststroke, recording 42.73 to erase Yolanda Armstrong 2002 achievement of 43.97.
Britany van Lange (11-12) shattered her own 400m freestyle mark of 5:33.69 she set last year, replacing it with a new time of 5:25.32.
Sobers, competing in the 18 and over category, lowered his old 50m butterfly mark of 28.06 with a new standard of 27.89.
