Dear Editor,
There is an old saying: “It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than open your mouth and erase all doubt.” The determination, no matter how inconsistent, by John Da Silva to convince readers the PNC destroyed Guyana and better days are had under the PPP have reached the ridiculous.
After reading Da Silva’s last letter in Kaieteur News on 22/2/2009 “Guyana decayed under the PNC, not PPP” where he practically admitted to my arguments that Guyana decayed under the PPP, I knew readers saw through his camouflage and thought it best not to respond and allow him to save face. I retracted my pledge when I read his letter “The PNC did more to destroy rather than build this nation” (KN 26/2/2009).
This confounded nonsense of rewriting history by blatantly fabricating events and issues have to stop!
In Da Silva’s 22/2/2009 letter he admitted to Guyana’s decay under the PPP by stating the strength of Guyana/US dollar under the PNC, Hoyte’s Economic Recovery Programme, even if he had to fabricate the ERP was not the PNC’s brainchild but that of the international financial institutions, and more schools built under the PNC.
Da Silva was hoping to trick the readership in that letter by separating Hoyte from Burnham when the PNC was lead by both.
On the alleged 130 squatting areas, I suggest Da Silva go and check the PPP’s records and he will find the leader who encouraged squatting that created slum like housing projects which continues today from the Ministry of Housing.
Da Silva said under the PNC, Guyana ranked lower than Haiti. The most recent Wall St Journal/Heritage Foundation’s Index Of Economic Freedom World Rankings reported Guyana is worse than Haiti. Overall Guyana scored 48.4 on the economic freedom scale, meaning its freedom is repressed.
I suggest Da Silva reads this Report which can be sourced on the internet.
He should also read the US Report on Guyana and Dr. Clive Thomas’ writings on the criminalized economy and failed state.
After Da Silva completes his readings he will be armed with facts, not fiction. He would then be in a better position to continue our conversations about the PNC and PPP governments.
