Forty-two-year-old Anthony Williams, of Laing Avenue, West Ruimveldt, would have the pleasure of being a guest of the state until he repays a $21,000 debt.
On January 22 last, the accused, while been entrusted with three pairs of boots valued $7000 each, fraudulently converted the money for his own use, knowing that he had to return the money to Faye Ann Morris, the owner of the boots.
The defendant pleaded guilty and opted to repay the virtual complainant. Williams further told the court that he needs some time to repay the VC stating that he can give her $3000 per week but noted to the Magistrate that he would need his freedom to do so.
This notion was short lived as the magistrate informed Williams that he needed to be in police custody until all the money is paid. Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson asked the defendant whether or not he was given all the boots at once, noting that it would only be right if the VC is given all her money at once.
Williams then stated that he would try and get the money by today for the VC. He was subsequently remanded to prison.
