… Body under the Mon Repos/Triumph Bridge
Four persons are in police custody assisting with investigations into the discovery of Munilall Mangru’s body, under a bridge at Mon Repos/Triumph, East Coast Demerara on Tuesday.
Two brothers, who are suspected drug dealers, and who ply their trade in nearby communities, an apparent eyewitness to the drug deal, and another individual have been detained by the police.
Police leads have led them to believe that a drug deal gone sour may have resulted in Mangru’s death.
According to reports, Mangru was a drug user and would normally purchase the illicit substance in the areas surrounding his home.
According to a source, the eyewitness claimed that Mangru went to buy drugs from the brothers, somewhere near to the Mon Repos/Triumph bridge, where the body was discovered.
The source said that the eyewitness also claimed to see one of the two brothers punch Mangru in the face.
The eyewitness is maintaining, however, that he saw nothing.
The post mortem examination has proved that Mangru died as a result of haemorrhaging of the brain, caused by blunt trauma.
Mangru’s body was discovered at approximately 9:00 hours on February 24, when a fisherman saw it under the bridge while he was casting his net in the trench. He summoned the police.
