Dear Editor,
It is with great disgust and frustration that I write seeking your assistance in exposing the lawlessness of some residents of my community, who often dispose of their refuse on the sides of the streets and trenches.
As a resident of Industry, it is frustrating to see the entire Sugrim Singh Road lined with garbage and other refuse, which includes dead animals. Along the same road is the main source of drainage of the area. A trench which runs adjacent is constantly clogged with plastic bottles and bags, thus preventing the flow of water.
More appalling is that the National Democratic Council (NDC) collects garbage from the residents of the community on a weekly basis at no cost to them, yet they dispose of the garbage in the trenches and on the parapets.
Many persons have placed sign boards about preventing the dumping of garbage, but these signs seem to be disregarded by residents.
I am aware that there is a clause in the bylaws which states that persons found guilty of improper disposal can be prosecuted.
I have also made reports to the police but to no avail. Despite the pleas of concerned citizens, the general disposition of most of residents seems to be an un-concerned attitude.
