Official sponsor of Western Tigers FC, BK International, yesterday afternoon handed over a cheque for $500,000 and 14 balls to the club as part of the company’s continuous support for the development of the West Ruimveldt based entity.
The donation comes on the heals of the Western Tigers promotion back to the Cellink Premier League following their demolition of the opposition to win the Banks Beer Division-One League, organised by the Georgetown Football Association.
Handing over the cheque yesterday was Brian Kyle Tiwari Jr. to club Treasurer Andre Dazzell in the presence of his sister Briony Gail Tiwari. Also sharing the special moment were BK International staff and Western Tigers club members.
In November of last year ahead of the NAMILCO Football Festival, BK International had presented a set of new uniforms and also made a donation of $200,000 to the club.
Office Manager Egan Bazilio in brief remarks noted that the company has observed regular improvement in the growth of the club.
“This is a routine presentation to the club to aid in the improvement of their well being and the overall presentation of the players and I want to let you know that we are very proud of these players and the strides they have been making for themselves and the community.”
Responding on behalf of the club, President Gordon Gilhuys said he is of the view that BK International has been doing a tremendous service to the West Ruimveldt Community more particularly, the BK International Western Tigers FC.
“We have been given a commitment from Mr. Tiwari that every quarter they will assist the club with our administrative growth.”
Gilhuys also disclosed that sometime in the first quarter the club will be making a trip up BK’s quarry in the Mazaruni where they will take on a Bartica side in a special match as part of a social trip for the players, compliments of the sponsor.
“I am thankful to BK for the commitment they have made to Western Tigers for the past year and a half which has impacted greatly on the way we have been performing which we intend to build on going forward into the new season.”
Gilhuys has sounded a warning to the other premier League clubs, “We are putting the clubs on alert that BK International Western Tigers will win the 2009 Premier League and this is a commitment we have also given our sponsor.” Western Tigers played unbeaten in winning the Division One League.
