Dear Editor,
The strangest of things I usually do whenever I get hold of any magazine is to browse through for the advertisements, before commencing with any reading.
I agree that I might just have an obsession with print creativity, and some ads indeed created an impression from THAG’s 2009 edition of The Explore Guyana Magazine.
Mainly the ones representing The Changing Room, King’s Jewellery World, Movado, The art of time, and the back cover being represented by Demerara Distillers Ltd.
If there in no additional cost to make changes or recreating an ad., some advertisers might need to consider and take advantage of that option. Your respective graphic designers are qualified enough to be innovative with new concepts.
I continue to be very appreciative to the advertisers for their commitment and dedication towards this venture, and it’s one of the few tools I use to do my personal marketing of this country.
The cover design of the magazine didn’t fail to impress, and being a philatelist in my own right, I was elated with the story of one of the world’s rare stamps, making reference to the British Guiana 1856 one cent Black Magenta postage stamp.
If any one dares to question Guyanese talent, my response will be to “buzz off.” It was unbelievable to witness art pieces of Stephanie Correia, Phillip Moore and Aubrey Williams. I think that if these pieces are transformed into postage stamps and post cards, they will enable us to showcase our creative arts in some ways to the world.
For the 2010 issue, why not make it a little more interesting by opening up the cover design to the general public in ways of a competition? That is, the submitting of three photos by an entrant. The actual design work will continue to be the sole responsibility of the usual graphic designer/s.
There is nothing to lose from discussions with some of the corporate advertisers.
T. Pemberton
