Reigning National Champion Kriskal Persaud played unbeaten on the first day of the DDL/Topco Juice Mash Chess Tournament last Sunday at the YMCA, Thomas Land.
Persaud most difficult game came against Shiv Nandalall, with the game even up to the middle stage; however things changed after Nandalall’s blunder of a bishop.
In a battle of the veteran players, Errol Tiwari was up a rook against David Khan but was unable to convert it to a win and had settle for a draw due to perpetual check.
Points standing after three rounds; Kriskal Persaud three, Errol Tiwari and David Khan two and a half, Kenrick Brathwaite, Shiv Nandalall, Learie Webster, Irshad Mohamed, Taffin Khan, Omar Shariff and Alex Joseph all on two points, Everton London, Michael Perriera and Haatram Parbat on one and half, Dennis Dillon, David Brush, Donald Perreira, Craig Sylvester, Brian Thompson and Sherlock Atwell one point, Chino Chung on half of a point, while Raymond Sookdeo and Nowrattan Persaud are yet to score.
In the junior category, Devendra Singh stands alone at the helm with three points and is followed closely by schoolmate Clive Bender on two and a half, Sham Khan and Sheriffa Ali two, Nicholas Stephney and Khalid Gajraj one and a half, Imran Khan and Stanley Ming one, Irshad Ishmael half of point and Denzel Dillon is yet to score.
Due to time constrains only three rounds were played. The final four rounds will be played on March 1st at the same venue. The tournament is sponsored exclusively by DDL under the Topco Juice Brand.
