A 26-year-old landlord was stabbed to death, shortly after 14:00 hrs yesterday, at his Grove, East Bank Demerara home during a brawl with a tenant and his reputed wife.
Dexter Manning, of Lot 39 North East Grove Housing Scheme, collapsed in his yard from two stab wounds to the stomach.
He died shortly after at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre.
Police subsequently detained Manning’s 32-year-old tenant, as well as the suspect’s spouse. Kaieteur News understands that investigators also recovered two knives from the crime scene.
Manning, his spouse and the couple’s two daughters, aged two, and eight months, occupied the bottom flat of the premises where the tragedy occurred, while the suspect and his reputed wife lived in the upper flat.
Reports indicate that Manning sustained the fatal wounds shortly after forcing his way into the top flat to confront his tenants.
A trail of blood from the top of the stairs to the victim’s flat seemed to support this version of events.
In addition, glass in a section of the front door had been shattered, while further damage to the door indicated that someone had forced their way in.
According to one report, an argument broke out with Manning and the suspect’s reputed wife when the woman went to the bottom flat to return some baking pans.
The argument reportedly escalated, and the woman’s reputed husband eventually joined in the dispute.
Eventually, Manning reportedly went up to the upper flat and forced his way in.
A neighbour of the victim said she was in her home when she heard Manning’s wife screaming.
On looking outside, she saw the wounded landlord staggering down the front steps.
The woman said that some of her relatives took the injured man to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre by bus.
He succumbed shortly after.
A relative of the suspect suggested that Manning was accidentally cut when the glass in the front door shattered during his struggle with his tenant.
Another neighbour told Kaieteur News that she had spoken to Manning a few minutes before the tragedy.
According to the woman, Manning had told her he was frustrated because his reputed wife was ill. Kaieteur News was told that his spouse suffers from epileptic seizures.
The neighbour said that Manning also told her that she would not be seeing him after yesterday.
