As residents of Bartica continue to express fear over the sudden upsurge of criminal activities in their community, the Regional officials have begun some work to bring some reduction in the fear factor.
According to the Region Seven Chairman, Holbert Knights, the Regional Intelligence Committee and other major stakeholders have decided to clear a section of Bartica which residents feel has been used as a safe haven for criminals.
On Wednesday, several inmates of the Mazaruni Prison were taken to Bartica to begin the clearing exercise in a section of Fourth Avenue.
Early Wednesday morning the prisoners were seen weeding overgrown bushes and clearing a large plot of land.
According to Mr. Knights, residents have been complaining about the excessive bush in the area where they believe criminals hideout.
Over recent times Bartica has been plagued by a series of armed robberies. Residents said this new trend is worrying to them since it only began as they are preparing to celebrate the first anniversary of the Bartica massacre.
