The inclement weather which has forced the postponement of the annual Mayor’s Cup Knockout Soccer Tournament has subsided somewhat and the organizers have recently set Friday February 20 for kick off.
Several of the country’s leading football teams will oppose each other in highly anticipated rivalry. The opening fixture will feature two city teams, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and Georgetown Football Club (GFC) up against two teams out of Linden, Milerock and Topp XX, respectively.
Football buffs could expect the fierce rivalry witnessed in the past between teams coming out of region 10 and those from region 4.
This spine tingling opener would set the pace for the other matches in the competition. All matches are scheduled for the GFC Ground, Bourda, with the first match of each night starting at 18:00hrs sharp. The second match of the double header will get underway at 20:00 hrs.
However, the third place playoff and the finals, slated for Sunday March 15 will commence at 19:00hrs.
