– bogus documents presented to victims
Investigators probing the money for visa racket involving a prominent Immigration Consultant and a city businessman have discovered that documents presented to victims of the scheme were false.
Reports reaching this newspaper stated that documents which the alleged schemers purported were obtained from a Canadian university were all bogus.
The victims who were led to believe that they could gain admission to the Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning were provided with admission papers which the schemers claimed were from the Canadian institution.
However, several checks with the college revealed that none of the persons, who had applied through the racket, had been registered.
Most of the victims were convinced that the documents presented to them were genuine ones from the Canadian university.
What they did not know was that the document could have been obtained via the internet.
Last week police questioned the Immigration Consultant who reportedly produced documents to prove that he had handed over all the transactions to an associate.
The consultant’s secretary at his local office was also questioned.
The police are still to arrest the associate, who has reportedly contacted some of the victims with a promise to refund their money.
Several victims have contacted their attorney with a view to taking private criminal action against the alleged perpetrators.
