According to a release from the body, the newly elected members of the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) held their first meeting on February 3 at the Everest Cricket Club, less than two weeks after their election to office at the Wales Community Development Centre.
Key appointments were made at this first meeting which was also aimed at setting the tone for the implementation of the Board’s future plans and programmes. Mr. Bissoondyal Singh, who is also the President of the East Coast Cricket Board (ECCB) and Vice President of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) returning as President, outlined his vision for this term.
He indicated the need for a greater degree of urgency and the need to employ a more strategic approach towards achieving the desired results.
The Board has also decided that no member would receive any stipend to cover expenses such as telephone, a privilege which was granted to some member in the past. High on the agenda of the Board this term is the completion of a Website and the establishment of a database of players which will assist in training, development and selection of players.
The proposal of the Chairman of the Competitions Committee Krishna Mangal to include a representative of female cricket, University of Guyana and the Umpire Council, received the blessings of the Board.
This move is in keeping with the expected hectic cricket seasons to come with sponsorship of a number of competition expected over the next two years.
Having these other players on this committee is expected to improve communication, access to facilities and the general organization of competitions. The Fund raising and marketing drive will intensify. Vice President-elect Anand Sanasie who is also the President of the West Demerara Cricket Association (WDCA) and Secretary of the GCB would be heading a fund raising committee which includes Marketing Officer elect Ravindra Prashad and Proprietor of the New Line Aqua Farm Salim Azeez of West Bank Demerara.
Others who are expected to play significant roles on this committee are Secretary elect Raj Singh and Premchand Ragubeer.
Vice President-elect Clyde Butts who is currently serving as the Chairman of Selectors of the West Indies Cricket Board was appointed as the Chairman of the Cricket Development Committee.
Other members of this committee are Dr. Rabindra Persaud, Ms. Emily Dodson and Ms. Carmin Abdul.
This committee ensures effective cricket operation and development of the game in the Country.
Mr. Butts has been a key player in the DCB’s proposal to retain the inter-county competition format with the addition of a President’s Eleven team which will accommodate promising players missing-out selection from the County sides.
Mr. Robert Adonis was appointed as the chairman of the senior selection panel while Mr. Nazimaul Drepaul was appointed as the Chairman of the youth selection committee.
The other elected executive members from the January 24 AGM at Wales present at the meeting were Treasurer, Pretipaul Jaigobin and Public Relations Officer, Rovin Stanley.
The Board has started preparations for an inter association U-15 tournament in preparation for the GCB’s Clico Inter County U-15 competition.
Meanwhile, under fifteen players in West Demerara are asked to contact Chairman of the Competitions Committee of the West Demerara Cricket Association Lalta Digamber – Canal (Tel. 623 9694), Krishna Mangal – West Coast -(Tel. 277 – 3585 or 628-0484) or Robin Khan – Wales (Tel. 267-2861) to finalise arrangement for scheduled trials.
