Nicolette Fernandes is the only negatively handicapped player that has made it to the semi-final stage of the Open category in the Bounty Farm Ltd. Handicap squash tournament.
On Thursday evening Fernandes survived yet another epic battle when she held her nerve to get past the crafty Juan Carlos Lazo, who started at +8 points.
She will face her toughest task so far when she plays her cousin David Fernandes in the semi-final, where she will start at -35 while David starts at +12 points.
David Fernandes (+12) advanced to the semi-final by taking care of Michael Atherley (+10) in quick time in their quarter-final clash.
The other semi-final match-up will feature the under-13 and under-15 Caribbean Champions Victoria Arjoon (+12) and Mary Fung-A-Fat (+10).
In the ‘A’ Category, four negatively handicapped players are still vying for top honours, with Nase-d Benn (-8) set to oppose Lydia Fraser (-10) and defending champion Nyron Joseph (-15) coming up against Ashley DeGroot (-8).
The finals are scheduled to take place from 6:00pm, this evening to be followed immediately by the presentation ceremony.
