Twenty-two-year-old Wayne Anthony Aulder was yesterday remanded to prison by Magistrate Yohance Cave on a charge of feloniously wounding a 15-year-old boy on February 4. He was not required to plead.
According to police prosecutor Shurland Thomas, bail should be denied. He further explained that the court must take into consideration the severity of the injuries that the lad sustained. The defendant asked for time so that he could acquire a defence attorney on his behalf. He will have to return to court on February 20 next.
On Wednesday last, the teen was allegedly attacked by his stepfather with a hammer. The incident stemmed from the child taking some potatoes which had belonged to the man. The potatoes were accidentally given to the child by his mother.
The teen is a third form student at the Sophia Special School.
The accused was arrested by an off-duty police officer, and the lad was taken to the Georgetown Hospital to undergo emergency surgery for his eye.
