On Sunday morning the roadways on the West Coast of Demerara will welcome back Guyana’s leading cyclists when the first road race for the 2009 season comes off.
It will be the annual Mashramani race organized by National Cycling Coach Hassan Mohamed.
This is also expected to be Holder’s first event for the year since he did not compete in the season opening National Park event two Saturday’s ago which was won by 2008 leading rider, Alonzo Greaves.
Sunday’s event is expected to be graced with the presence of all the local stars with the exception of Former Caribbean champion Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams who has decided to take a one year break from the sport to focus on new family responsibilities.
Pedal off time on Sunday is 09:00hrs from the Demerara Harbour Bridge proceeding to Bushy Park on the East Bank of Essequibo and returning to the starting line for the finish.
The first six (6) seniors and two (2) juniors to cross the line will be rewarded. Six prime prizes will also be at stake during the course of the race which is sponsored by the National Sports Commission.(Franklin Wilson)
