Carjackers shot a taxi driver in the face, at around 19:30 hrs last night, after luring him from the Stabroek area to North Ruimveldt.
Carlton Jerrick, 47, of North East La Penitence, was attacked in Mittelholzer Street, North Ruimveldt, by a passenger whom he had picked up and two other men who were waiting in the area.
The men fled via a bridge into Lamaha Park, after relieving Jerrick of an undisclosed sum of cash and jewellery.
Jerrick is being treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where his condition is listed as stable.
Kaieteur News understands that Jerrick was parked outside Demico House when he was hired by a man who said that he was going to North Ruimveldt.
During the journey, the passenger called someone on his cell phone.
On arriving at Mittelholzer Street, Jerrick parked his car, and the passenger and two other men who were waiting nearby attacked him, shooting him in the face.
After the men fled, the wounded driver managed to contact a female relative by phone and inform her of the robbery.
The woman and other relatives, along with police ranks, took Jerrick to the GPHC.
Up to press time, there were no arrests.
