Current world leading quarter–miler, Guyana’s Aliann Pompey narrowly missed a second consecutive victory in the 600 Yard Run at the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) sanctioned Millrose Games.
Pompey returned 1:19.51 for second place in the event, which Monica Hargrove from the United States of America won in 1:19.50 in the close race at the world famous Madison Square Garden in New York on Friday.
Jamaican Clora Williams finished third in 1:22.86 while Guyana’s Marian Burnett came fourth in 1:22.90 to seal the top four athletes in the event. The Millrose Games is an annual indoor track and field meeting.
Pompey had set the leading 400m mark this year with 51.85 at the New Balance Games in New York last weekend. In the process she broke her 2003 national indoor record that was previously set at 52.17 seconds.
