The police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred at about 20:45 hours on Friday night on the Sheet Anchor Public Road, East Canje, Berbice. This accident resulted in the death of 16-year-old Vallas Motie.
According to the police, Motie and his friend, Ajay Doodnauth, of Sheet Anchor, were walking along the roadway when they were struck from behind by motor car PJJ 8072.
They were taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital, where Motie was pronounced dead on arrival.
Ajay Doodnauth, who is nursing a broken right foot, was admitted a patient.
The driver of the motor vehicle has been arrested and is in police custody assisting with investigations.
Speaking to this newspaper yesterday, the dead teenager’s sister, Annette Motie, related that her brother was on his way to purchase Chinese food at a nearby restaurant.
She said that the car, which was allegedly proceeding at a fast rate of speed, nearly struck down another girl before slamming into Motie and his friend.
According to Annette Motie, it was the girl who narrowly escaped the car who relayed the news of her brother’s death.
