A 13-year-old female resident of Grove, East Bank Demerara has been taken into protective custody by the Childcare Protection Agency.
Officers from the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security, on Thursday last, swooped down on the girl’s home after the allegations had been reported.
The girl reportedly informed the officers that her father would allow the 31-year-old man to come to the house to spend the night in her room for sex.
This has reportedly been ongoing for the past year.
The neighbours have reportedly accused the man of prostituting his daughters, but this has not been confirmed as yet.
It further came to light that the girl’s older sisters, aged 15 and 17, have both been married according to Hindu rites, and both have children.
The 17-year-old was married at age fifteen, and she has since given birth to two children.
The 15-year-old was recently married, and also has given birth to a child.
The parents of the girls were turned over to the police by ministry officials, and the matter is currently being investigated by the police. Charges are likely to be laid shortly.
One ministry official was hopeful that the recent pieces of legislation tabled by Human Services Minister Priya Manickchand take effect as soon as possible, so that perpetrators of such heinous acts could bear the harshest penalties possible.
