Police have issued a wanted bulletin for Surajnarine Singh, who escaped from the Georgetown Prison on Thursday.
Singh, said to be 20, is of medium build, has black hair, and his last known address is Lot 5, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara. The fugitive was serving a five-year sentence for armed robbery.
A police press release urged anyone with information that could lead to Singh’s arrest to contact the police on telephone numbers 225-6411, 225-2700, 225-8196, 226-2917, 911 or the nearest police station.
According to reports, Singh slipped away from prison guards between 14:00 hrs and 15:00 hrs on Thursday, while he and other inmates were fetching lumber into the penitentiary.
It is unclear how he managed to escape unnoticed, although there are reports that he was wearing civilian attire at the time. Kaieteur News understands that prison officials realized that the prisoner was missing only until several hours had elapsed. Singh had been incarcerated for about 20 days when he escaped.
