Following a heated argument with a co-worker yesterday at Sand Hills, Vanburn Allicock was stabbed in the left side of his abdomen, and subsequently succumbed to the injuries.
The 31-year-old Allicock was employed to drive a truck by a company at Sand Hills, some four miles from Timehri, which deals in both timber and poultry.
Allicock was apparently a non-violent person who would walk away from arguments; and in keeping with his character, as the confrontation between himself and his co-worker grew, Allicock turned and walked away from the argument.
As he walked away, his enraged co-worker ran behind him brandishing a ‘sharp’ instrument. Allicock turned around, and the onrushing man stabbed him.
The dead man’s mother and aunt are also employed by the same company, and were present when he (Allicock) was stabbed.
The co-worker who stabbed Allicock is said to have escaped in a boat to the West Bank of the Demerara River, where he discarded the boat and ran off into the undergrowth. Reports have said that the man does not know the area well.
Members of the Guyana Police Force mounted a search for the fleeing man, but have not yet captured him.
The wounded Allicock was taken to the East Demerara Regional Hospital (EDRH) and was them transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he was pronounced dead.
A post mortem examination will be performed on the body in the coming days.
