David Edwards, 45, of Princeville Village, Mahdia, will have to remain in jail until January 21, ostensibly for being in possession of a shotgun cartridge.
Yesterday, he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson to face the charge of the unlawful possession of firearm cartridge, and pleaded not guilty.
It is alleged that last January 8, Edwards, who was intoxicated, had on his person the 12-gauge cartridge. He pleaded not guilty.
According to the prosecution, the defendant was in a rum shop drinking heavily. He then started to behave in an unruly manner, causing public-spirited persons to alert the police about his behaviour.
He was then arrested and taken to the police station, where he was searched and the cartridge discovered.
The matter has been transferred to Madhia, and Edwards must keep a January 21 court date.
