WILLIAMSBURG, CORENTYNE — The New Jersey Arya Samaj Humanitarian Mission, in collaboration with its local chapter, donated a wheelchair to Waveney Fraser last week.
The 75-year-old woman, who lives at Lot 172 Number Two Village in East Canje, suffered a stroke on the right side and is also affected by arthritis.
The wheelchair was donated to the Humanitarian Mission by Food for the Poor.
Her only child, Selwyn Fraser, takes care of her. He said that her recuperation is slow, but they do get by.
For her being bed-ridden, he said, there are several areas of need, including disposable diapers, disinfectant and toiletries. He has appealed to public-spirited citizens to assist in any way.
President of the local chapter, Dr. Ramesh Sugrim of Williamsburg, Corentyne, made the presentation at his office at Williamsburg on the Corentyne. He said that, in 2008, hundreds of Guyanese got assistance from the organization through the Humanitarian Mission.
Recently, two other physically challenged persons were also given wheelchairs.
The New Jersey Arya Samaj Mandir Inc. was founded 20 years ago. A local chapter was established at Williamsburg on the Corentyne on July 4, 2007. The Humanitarian Mission itself came into being in 2005.
Head of the organization, Pandit Suresh Sugrim, pointed out that the New Jersey Arya Samaj Mandir Inc. is not only committed to realizing the third principle of the Noble Society, which is to learn, to teach and to preach the Veda; but it is also dedicated to assisting those in unfortunate circumstances.
BE THANKFUL AND GRATEFUL TO THE FOREIGN EXPLOITERS
