Investigators hope surveillance video will give them some clues as they try to figure out who is to blame for an altercation that left a man dead in Queens.
The video shows the man after he was shot, running in one direction down the street as his brother-in-law, seen in subsequent frames, is seen hustling in the other direction.
Beni Jagdesh, 33, was shot in the chest during a confrontation in front of his Ozone Park home, Thursday.
The fight started when Jagdesh, driving his car, pulled into his driveway as 18-year-old Wade Cameron was walking past, according to Jagdesh’s brother-in-law, Sham Jaganan.
Police said at some point, Jagdesh assaulted Cameron with a broomstick, a moment not captured by the surveillance video.
But moments later, Jagdesh was shot in the chest.
“He said to me, ‘Sham, run, Sham, he’s got a gun, he shot me,'” Jaganan said.
Cameron was arraigned in court Friday, while Jagdesh’s family — including a wife and three young daughters — is now planning a funeral. A cold-blooded teenage thug shot dead a loving father of three when an altercation in the Queens man’s driveway turned violent Thursday, police said.
Beni Jagdesh, 33, drove his gray BMW into his Ozone Park driveway at about 2 p.m. after getting a haircut with his brother-in-law and spotted an 18-year-old man hanging out in front of the home, police and family said.
Jagdesh told the teen to move.
“This guy, he punched me in my face,” said Jagdesh’s brother-in-law Sham Jagnanan, 35, who was sitting in the sedan’s passenger seat. “He pulled out the gun and pumped two bullets into him.”
Jagdesh used his last breath as a warning: “He yelled, ‘Sham, run. He has a gun. He shot at me,'” Jagnanan told the Daily News Thursday night.
The self-employed welder, who has three doting daughters, stumbled to his back stairway and collapsed as his stunned wife rushed toward him.
“He was laying on the steps,” said Sonita Beni, 33. “I didn’t know what happened. He tried to say something. But he couldn’t.”
Jagdesh was later pronounced dead at Jamaica Hospital.
Investigators were questioning the teen last night and police said charges were expected.
Cops said the teen shot Jagdesh after he picked up a mop handle for defense. Relatives said Jagdesh never had a chance to pick up the makeshift weapon.
“This is one of the worst things that could have happened to this family,” Jagnanan said.
While relatives broke the tragic news to Jagdesh’s youngest kids – Malena, 3, and Melissa, 4, – they haven’t figured out how to tell 8-year-old Melonie, who was at school when her dad died.
“His kids were his life,” said Sonita Beni. “He was always kissing them and loving them.
