The Bella Dam man who was detained moments after the body of a man was discovered in a suitcase has been charged for murder.
Yesterday Lakeram Doodnauth, called ‘Chico’, appeared at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court where he was read the capital offence charged. He appeared before Magistrate Fazil Azeez.
The charge read that on January 3, last, he murdered 49-year-old Rajah Alli, called ‘Bobby’.
The charge was indictable and the accused was not required to plead.
He was remanded to prison and is expected to make his next court appearance on February 9. On Saturday last, Rajah’s body was found bundled into a suitcase under the accused house at Bella Dam, Pouderoyen.
The gruesome discovery was made shortly before 17:00 hours, after police received information that Rajah’s body was stashed in a suitcase under a shed in the suspect’s yard.
Police, in a press release had stated that their investigations revealed that Alli and another man were consuming alcohol on the day in question when an argument ensued between them.
This developed into an altercation, during which Alli was chopped about his body and placed into a suitcase which was left under a shed.
Neighbours contacted the police, and upon their arrival, the police found Alli’s body in the suitcase.
It was subsequently taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where Alli was officially pronounced dead.
