After 37 years as a firefighter, Chief Fire Officer Lawrence David has called it a day.
David, who joined the service on December 6, 1971, proceeded on pre-retirement leave yesterday.
He rose through the ranks of the organisation, served at Timehri, Georgetown, New Amsterdam and West Demerara, and held the posts of Fire Prevention Officer and Divisional Commander, Administration, prior to his appointment as Fire Chief in 2004.
Throughout his career as a firefighter, David benefited from special training in Industrial Firefighting in the United States of America, Disaster Management in Trinidad and Nicaragua, and Firefighting Strategies in Japan.
He also holds a degree in Public Management from the University of Guyana.
A special function was held in his honour yesterday at the Guyana Fire Service Headquarters. Fire Officer
Winston McGregor will carry out the functions of Chief Fire Officer in the absence of Deputy Chief Marlon Gentle, who is on sick leave.
