Intent on keeping their customers energized in the festive season, the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) spread last-minute Christmas cheer to dozens when they hosted the Georgetown leg of their ‘Cash in the Booth’ promotion in the city on Christmas Eve.
In its second day at the Central Garage location, the promotion attracted a large number of supporters, who rushed to purchase the handsets which were selling for as low as $2,700. Citizens braved the rains with high hopes of winning instant cash if given an opportunity to enter the cash cube on stage.
Waiting eagerly also in the audience were sixty lucky customers, who won play stations, flat screen televisions, laptop computers, DVD Camcorders, and other items to add lustre to their Christmas.
The first phase of the ‘Cash in the Booth’ Promotion saw Narine Ramroop, of Lamaha Railway Line, and Whitney Williams, of Bagotsville, copping the ‘first fling’ at the ‘cash cube grabs’.
After much encouragement from spectators, Ramroop won himself $6,440, while Williams took home $13, 840. On Tuesday, at the same location, over $44,000 were won in the same promotion.
Inside the Cash Cube those selected had sixty seconds to grab cash. They cannot ‘grab from the roof’, ‘grab from the floor’ or ‘stoop for cash’ during the exercise.
To date, there have been twelve shows since the promotion started last month, and five winners were selected at each segment to receive the prizes and other lucrative incentives up for grabs.
Hinterland customers are not left out of the fun with Cellink’s ‘$10 for 10 days’ hinterland special. From the 20th to the 31st of December, subscribers living in remote areas that are serviced by GT&T Cellink network locations will be enjoying a 50% discount for the season.
The promotion applies to prepaid users in the respective areas, and the on-network calls would apply to Cellink-to-Cellink and Cellink-to-landline callers. The areas identified for this promotion are Lethem, Mahdia, Port Kaituma, Mabaruma, and Kwakwani.
The prepaid per minute rates applicable for origination of calls are $10.00 for the off peak rate and $11.50, VAT exclusive, for the peak rate.
