Passengers of a Route 42 minibus (BHH 6837) jumped out of the windows of the vehicle, yesterday, as two would-be hijackers took control of the bus, in an apparent bid to rob its operators.
The conductor explained that the bus stopped to pick up passengers at the Houston Bypass, just past the Distribution Services Limited (DSL) Supermarket.
“De nex’ ting I know, I look back and I see a big belly woman jumping through de back window of de bus,” said the conductor.
The conductor added that he also observed the other passengers of the minibus hastily exiting the vehicle via windows.
He said at this point in time, he opened the door and bolted, because he was worried that he would be attacked and robbed by the hijackers since he was holding all of the money they (he and the driver) had earned for the day.
Soon after, one of the hijackers slipped into the front passenger’s seat and confronted the driver with a knife. The assailant reportedly pressed the tip of the knife against the driver’s belly and instructed him to “Drive, and don’t stop.”
The driver said that when the minibus reached Agricola, he was ordered to stop and the hijackers disembarked the vehicle.
This allowed the driver to take the minibus back to the DSL area where he picked up the conductor before they proceeded to the Ruimveldt Police Station and made a report.
