Dear Editor,
Please permit me to highlight a situation which has, over time, become very frustrating, to the extent that residents who are in a position to afford a generator are seriously thinking of buying one in order to prevent their dependence on GPL for the lousy service being offered.
In the past, we would have power outage sometimes two times per week. However, over recent times, the situation has moved to almost every day; that, too, for more than 12 hours per day.
The situation does not only result in inconvenience, but is frustrating, since all of these outages are supposedly unscheduled; and the only answer you get from GPL’s personnel at Versailles is that they are experiencing some problems.
These problems seem to be ongoing, and we are fed up with this. What about preventative maintenance? And what in heaven’s name is the state of the power station if every day there is a problem with it?
As if this is not bad enough, there are times when consumers call 264-2668 to enquire on the status with power and what is the reason for the extended outage, and before you can finish speaking, the phone is hung up. I would have personally redialled the number at least twice and let the persons know that it is inappropriate to hang up the phone on a customer. Amazingly, these frequent outages do not result in a reduction in the monthly electricity bill.
You can bet that, after spending monies to buy candles, kerosene, batteries etc. to ensure that the house is lighted, one is still required to pay the regular electricity bill.
Come on GPL, you collect our hard earned cash; please provide us with a decent service.
