Dear Editor,
I wish to express congratulations to the PNCR and its membership for again holding a most successful General Council meeting, on Saturday, November 6, 2008.
Despite the severe weather, General Council members from across the country made their way to Congress Place to chart a new course for the party for 2009.
The overwhelming turnout and growing enthusiasm of the supporters and members of the party are an indication that Guyanese continue to look to the PNCR for leadership in this time of severe economic, social, and political challenges which grip the nation.
At a time when Guyanese are witnessing some of the most horrendous crimes committed in their life time, threat to their human rights, dire economic consequences brought on primarily by an exorbitant 16% VAT, and a Government’s non-responsiveness to the concerns of the people, we must continue to stay focused and organised to strategically deal with these issues.
To the members and supporters, I commend your show of great citizenship, responsibility, and commitment to be engaged in a process aimed at achieving a more equitable, just and decent society. It is your kind of unreserved participation at meetings like these that are likely to bring about the desired change necessary for a better Guyana.
Your sacrifice, patience, dedication and active participation will continue to inspire others that they, too, should get involved in the process to bring about meaningful change in Guyana.
However, as we continue to press for a better society, let us remember that true democracy is worth fighting for, and real democracy is never achieved easily, so let us keep keeping on!
