National 20/20 player Esaun Crandon clobbered a brutal 87 to lead Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar (RHTWSB) to a 16-run win against defending Berbice champions Albion on Sunday at Port Mourant in the Berbice final of the national Gafoor’s Cup 20/20 first division cricket competition.
Crandon smashed six fours and five sixes and added 100 in 13 overs with his brother Royston Crandon (43) as RHTWSC reached 176-9 off 20 overs after they were asked to bat first on a slow track.
Royston Crandon returned to take 3-35 with his off-spin as Albion, who lost to City side Malteenoes in the 2007 national final, were restricted to 163-8 in 20 overs despite an unbeaten 47 from national under-19 player Jonathan Foo and 46 from Test left-hander Narsingh Deonarine.
The Crandon siblings joined forces in sunny conditions with their team on 18-2 and took the attack to the Albion bowlers before Royston lofted former Guyana under-19 off-spinner Orvin Mangru to long-off at 118-3 in the 16th over.
Delbert Hicks (21) and Esaun Crandon added 26 for the fourth wicket before Crandon was stumped off first-class left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul while Hicks and former West Indies under-19 Captain Andre Percival (14) put together 29 for the fifth wicket.
Permaul ended with 2-31 for Albion who were never allowed to score freely once Deonarine was removed. Shastri Persaud chipped in with 19 towards the end and although Foo hit three sixes and two fours in his impressive innings RHTWSC, who dedicated the win to David Burges of Windies Sports Bar, won easily to advance to the national semi-finals.
